MEET THE STAFF & BOARD

STAFF

Abby Austin

Executive Director

Abby came to Alaska 15 years ago, drawn by her passion for aviation and flying the Alaskan skies. Her career in aviation eventually led her into the nonprofit world, as Executive Director of the Alaska Airmen Association. The work lit a fire in her for nonprofit leadership, and she eventually began looking for a way to put those skills toward something with broader impact for the Alaskan community.

The timing lined up when the Farmland Trust needed help: what was meant to be a short-term solution for both sides has turned into what feels like a long-term fit. Abby joined the Trust in 2024 with no background in agriculture, and in the two years since has learned just how vital farming is to Alaska’s communities and food security. What started as a leap of faith has grown into a genuine passion for Alaska’s soil and the farmers who work it, and she’s grateful to play a part in protecting farmland forever.

Margaret Adsit

Margaret Adsit

Lands Program Coordinator and Alaska Farmlink Director

Margaret is thrilled to return to AFTC, supporting the lands program and strengthening Alaska’s farming community by connecting landowners with aspiring farmers. She proudly considers herself a cheerleader for others’ dreams, a passion that has shaped her career. From helping entrepreneurs grow their businesses through Scribe Away to promoting Alaska agriculture with Alaska Farm Tours and protecting farmland with the Alaska Farmland Trust, Margaret has dedicated herself to making a positive impact.

When she’s not advocating for local farms, you’ll find her immersed in a good book, tackling trails at a leisurely “sloth-like” pace, or enthusiastically experimenting in the kitchen. She lives in the Butte with her husband, two kids, and a mischievous dog.
